That Touch of Mink

We've taken an awfully long hiatus here at Toronto Wildlife and feel free to make any and all hibernation jokes you can think of.

To help usher in the approaching spring, here's a spanking new image of a mink on the shores of Lake Ontario. I first startled this mink's mate as it darted in and out of large jetty of rocks and this turned out to be quite a stroke of luck. The first mink let out an alarm and so the second one returned and more or less swam right to me. Shortly after that both mink disappeared into the rocks and made a clean getaway.

Mink are tiny and cute and have soft fur but they're rumoured to be quite vicious. Birds will go nuts if they see a mink around. You probably shouldn't pet one no matter how cute they look.

UPDATE: How vicious can mink be? This vicious.
